workshop:  INTRODUCTION TO ASHTANGA YOGA

Ashtanga Yoga is known for it’s dynamic, flowing sequence that emphasises connection of breath and movement. It can become a beautiful moving meditation, but might also feel quite intimidating when you first join the class. The course will introduce you to both theoretical and practical aspects of Ashtanga Yoga. It will provide a solid foundation for those who want to start or who already attended some classes, but would like to learn more about the method.

Among other topics we will cover:

  • the main techniques we use in Ashtanga Yoga, including the ujjayi breath;
  • how to connect your breath and movement into flowing vinyasas;
  • the structure of the Ashtanga Yoga sequence and why we do it this way;
  • how to develop your own Ashtanga Yoga practice to be able to join Mysore classes or practice at home;
  • the goal of yoga and it’s basic philosophy.

After the workshop you will be able to join all the regular Ashtanga classes with good foundation and confidence. I encourage you to combine the workshop with the evening Ashtanga Led I class to directly apply your knowledge in practice.

I strongly recommend this workshop to all new students at Ashtanga Yoga Luzern. You don’t have to start with the workshop – you can also join it after already coming to some regular classes.

luzern yoga workshops

workshop:  BANDHAS

Bandhas are a very important component of the yoga practice. In this workshop you will learn how engaging the muscles of the pelvic floor (mula bandha) and the lower abdomen (uddiyana bandha) improves your alignment, helps you to breath in a correct way and seals the energy in your body. A proper understanding of how to locate and use the bandhas, together with practical exercises, will bring lightness and energy into your practice.

Apart from the theory, we will apply the knowledge in a few asanas and I will share with you how to use the bandhas in your pranayama (yogic breathing) practice.

workshop: ASHTANGA YOGA – A FEMALE PERSPECTIVE

In this workshop I will address different topics that concern female* yoga practitioners. I will share with you my experience as an Ashtangi and talk about how the practice can be different for us as women, especially considering the hormonal changes we go through in the cycle of a month and in our lifetime.

I will explain you whether and how to practice during menstruation, some basic rules of doing yoga while pregnant as well as practicing yoga while going through menopause. You will learn how to modify your practice during your period and we will try a few poses which help relieve cramping, lower back pain and other symptoms you might be experiencing.

*The workshop is mostly addressed to women and people who menstruate. However men, and especially male teachers, are also welcome to join and learn about the subject 🙂
